Case Study 10 - Bex
Our 33 yr old daughter (B), had a Brain Stem Stroke, in November 2019, & was treated in Glos Royal Hospital. We were very satisfied, with her post stroke treatment, care & support, & wrote to that effect.
The Therapy intensity, at GRH, was limited & we were very keen to get B to BIRU (In Bristol) having heard good reports. B left GRH, unable to speak, eat, only able to slightly move her head, & her mouth was barely able to open, due to her jaw being locked after the Stroke.
At BIRU she made some useful improvements & then, in October 2020, she moved on to The Dean, in Gloucester. Her care & support have continued & the whole place has an air of homeliness, with staff behaving like, & saying it is, a family, & how they enjoy their work immensely.
B is having lots of Therapies, which she enjoys & never refuses, & we can see continued improvements in her abilities, which is very encouraging. B seems to have established good relationships, with everybody she has encountered, & her mood appears to be good, considering the trauma she has experienced.
Senior Managers, Therapists & ward staff, are all very positive & Bex is able communicate, via email, if she has any issues. We are looking forward to B continuing, at The Dean, to enable lots more progress whilst she continues with regaining some of her “Normal activities, in their kitchen, plus Hydrotherapy when the Covid allows.
Keep up the good work, everybody, & hope you enjoy your occasional box of biscuits from Bex.
